Fitness club completed its first season. You will have an opportunity to sign up in the Spring. The students really logged a lot of mileage during the 12 weeks-569 miles! Here are the totals by grade level.

Congratulations to Bobby Wagner in Ms. Zutes class who logged the most mileage during fitness club. Bobby logged 13 miles-that is 1/2 marathon!

AYP Celebration

| Belmont Elementary School triumphantly achieved AYP for the 2007 – 2008 school year. Part of this success is attributed to a remediation program called “Boot Camp”. Principal, Bridget Outlaw, new to Belmont in 2007-2008, helped target students, staff and funds to support the remediation of the recruits. Boot Camp Colonels (Belmont Staff) and Recruits (students) worked diligently for 59 days of intense instruction for an extra hour after school preparing for the Virginia Standards of Learning tests given this past June. Recruits enthusiastically worked towards improving their skills in Math and Reading and enjoyed their time with the Boot Camp Colonels. Significant gains were made across all grade levels. Pre, mid, and post-assessments helped track progress of students and guide remediation. New recruits have been drafted for the 2008-2009 school year to help Belmont continue their success.
